Commencement will find all Students wearing regalia made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles! Fewer plastic bottles will be choking our landfills because for every John Jay student walking at commencement, an average of 25 plastic bottles was used to manufacture their cap and gown.
In the effort to remain green on campus, the line of graduation wear - named GreenWeaver® - is made of fabric spun from molten plastic pellets. With some 60 million plastic bottles going into U.S. landfills every day, John Jay College is helping to turn trash into keepsakes.
Since 2014, John Jay College has helped to divert 395,475 plastic bottles from landfills!
